BREAKING: More ouzo for the Sheriff as £250m con Dev Clever goes bust

There were some share promoters who pushed Dev Clever (DEV), which IPO’d at 1p, as being worth 50p per share and indeed the shares reached the 40s and were suspended at just over 30p making this a £250 million disaster waiting to happen. I pointed out that it was run from a lock up in Stafford, that it was a cash guzzling POS, the stinky share sales by the CEO ahead of a lack of profits warnings, spoof investments at a premium to the share price made by companies with no cash. My list of exposes was a long one as you can see HERE. This was always going to be a disaster but natch, mug punters knew otherwise.

Solid State gets new NED – Ms. "how’s Your father" Sam Smith, you see how this works?

Sam Smith, who quit as CEO of FinnCap (FCAP) shortly before a series (not yet) finished of dire profits warnings having, imprudently, racked up the cost base in the face of an obvious oncoming macro storm, claiming that her resignation was to allow her to get her leg over, now has time on her hands. Sorry to hear about the downturn in the how’s your father department Sam. Anyhow she has today become a NED at Solid State (SOLI).

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast - on record profits warnings

I forgot to mention Woodlarks.  Thanks to those who donated  yesterday but I must keep nagging you all. Still 98.5% of bearcast listeners are yet to donate, surely you can spare a fiver! Please donate HERE.  In the podcast I consider why profits warnings are at record levels and how long they will stay at such levels and what that means.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: A day in my idea of Greek hell thanks to my wife

I refer to the resort of Stoupa. My wife knows how much I loathe and despise it and why and yet I found myself there again today. It was, as anticipated, hell on earth. Forget subbing Zak Mir’s copy for eternity this is the real deal. On a lighter note I examine timelines of placings, director share dumps, profits warnings and ramptastic statements at Best of the Best (BOTB) and Braveheart Investment  Group (BRH). In a world where anyone cared any more there would be a full steward’s on both. Of course nobody gives a damn and the world moves on. Nothing to see here sir.

Tom Winnifrith Bearcast: Even Shipston's Buffett is starting to panic

I am indeed with my father in Shipston this morning and even he has noticed that he is not quite as rich as he was two weeks ago. Shiuld we pamic about our holdings? On balance I am not suggesting that you do but certain stocks do look very vulnerable. Surely profits warnings from Telit (TCM), IQE (IQE) and Carnival (CCL) are in the pipeline. Then there is the issue of companies such as Bidstack (BIDS) which need placings urgently. Just how possible is that going to be in the current climate. Then to Sirius (SXX). The Sunday papers seem to think that sh\areholders may well reject the Anglo bid and so lose everything. I discuss this looming calamity, who is to blame and what the impact localised and more widely will be.

On The Beach: Top broker predicts THREE profits warnings, lashes poor quality of City analysis

In a private email to key clients a top broker has today suggested that, £600 million capitalised (at 460p),  On The Beach (OTB) will have served up THREE profits warnings by early 2021 and that the shares are worth 300p, tops. I have obtained that email which is below:

Crack out the ouzo, 100% vindication as TrakM8 bailout placing gets underway, investor misinformation confirmed

This morning, after a series of profits warnings, AIM uber dog TrakM8 (TRAK) has announced that there is a bookbuild underway on a £1.66 million bailout placing at just 65p. The shares are now 67p bid so you'd be a moron to participate but conversations are being had between institutional morons and hapless broker FinnCap right now, not withstanding the fact that today's statement lays bare the Nov 28 interim statement as 100% misleading.

Tom Winnifrith Bonus Bearcast for Paul Scott - this is why moral journalists break news of placings - ref Cyan Scoop

Paul Scott is slating me for breaking news of the Cyan (CYAN) placing which the company has now confirmed in a grudging sort of manner. I examine why Paul is upset but explain why his argument is flawed and why he needs to direct his ire at the company not at me. Ever since there have been financial journalists our job has been to break stories of placings, bids and profits warnings. I explain why that is the moral thing to do and exactly why it was the moral thing to do to break the Cyan placing today. I've been breaking such stories as a financial journalist for 25 years. I am bloody good at it and so have no plans to stop. It is one of the few things I do which I can say, without doubt, is morally right. My snake encounter article, I mention in the podcast, is HERE

Reader Poll – Monday a good day to bury bad news – how many profits warnings?

It is all kicking off. Greece & Grexit, The Chinese stockmarket bubble bursting, ISIS on the rampage. The eyes of the world will not be on London listed companies. It is to quote that Labour spin doctor on the day of 9/11 “a good day to bury bad news”. What better day to sneak out a profits warning or a deeply discounted placing to your mates, the City spivs?
